Will Texas’ State Sovereignty be a major issue in the battle for the Republican Governor’s race?
Just last week we have seen some early comments, consider this:
- Republican challenger Debra Medina encouraged Texas representatives to call a special session to nullify the unconstitutional health care bill that may all but become law this Saturday night.
- Days later, Texas Governor Rick Perry claimed that the current administration is “hell-bent” on socialism and spoke of using the 10th amendment to challenge this abuse of federal power
- Kay Bailey? She’s made no comment. I wonder if that will become a pattern?
I think the best thing for Texas and maybe the country would be for this primary to play out on the battlefield of state sovereignty. The country could use the Constitutional education that would result from a heated discussion on this.
Perry has seemingly begun to build a case of grievances against the federal government. His primary points:
- Current administration is “hell-bent” on socialism
- Washington is now actively punishing Texas through it policies
- Health Care Bill would eat up Texas’ $9 billion rainy day fund in 1.5 years
- Cap and Trade would cap the entire southern economy
- Texas may have to reassert 10th amendment protections
I will not pretend to know whether Perry is sincere or if this is simply positioning himself for the upcoming primaries. But that’s not the point… certainly these statements indicate the mood of many of the people in Texas. If nothing else, Texans know that our state, among others, is under attack by the current redistribution-focused federal government. And we know that something must be done…
But are we serious?
Are Texans waking up to the power grab coming from Washington D.C?
Are they are realizing that the next line of defense for freedom and the Constitution must come from state’s bold enough to hold the line with the 10th amendment?
Or does it just feel good to complain?
Will we just be happy with words, not actions?
Time will tell.

Damn right we are serious!! Don’t Mess With Texas!!
I think you’re right on that one, Barron! The question is – will these TX politicians do what the people of their state want? I think they’ll have to sooner or later….frustration is boiling over.
Perry plays both sides, he is conservative when it suits him. Most of the time he is plotting out new ways to screw us over via the highway system etc.
He knows which way the wind blows, and where the fiscally conservative people of Texas are putting their energy….and money.
I guess I am saying his new found "love for the people" is definitely a new found thing.
I live elsewhere these days, but Texas is my home state. Keep up the fight guys, some of the ex-pats will likely come home if Texas is the place for a stand on Liberty.
I've encountered only two gubernatorial candidates who have consistently supported Texas state sovereignty since day one: Republican candidate Debra Medina and Libertarian candidate Steve Nichols.
If Perry were truly sincere, he wouldn't have been complacent all this time. Nor would he have waited until state sovereignty became an issue and conveniently included it in his campaign platform to garner votes. Actions speak more loudly than words Rick, and your track record on state sovereignty fails epically.
You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn’t changed.
“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don’t cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.
No, although they do show an effort to conceal, bury and discredit opposing points of view. To even go as far as to change the definition of an appropriate paper to keep out those they do not want to be heard. It proves that the global warming debate has not been a free and open discussion, but a propaganda war lead by those with a vested interest int he outcome irregardless of the facts. One other note on facts, several emails talk about "tricking" the statistics to bring it more inline with the political agenda as well as deleting emails amongst each other concerning certain topics. Do recheck your information on "dramatic warming" The stats ive been seeing are not even coming close to projections. We have been had.
